Google releases Google Search Windows Mobile plug-in

image A few weeks ago, Google launched a mobile plug-in for Symbian devices that put a Google search shortcut onto the phone’s home screen. This shortcut reduces the time it takes for you to get answers from Google by eliminating the initial search steps like finding and starting the web browser and navigating to Google.com before entering your query. The same plug-in image

image
has been available for BlackBerry devices since last December and today Google made it available for Windows Mobile devices too. Basically it’s quite similar to Microsoft’s original Windows Live search plug-in as available for Windows Mobile. To get the 300 KB Home and Today screen plug-in - which is available for Windows Mobile Classic, Professional and Standard - simply browse to mobile.google.com on your device and download and install it to use Google Search straight from your Home screen.

HTC patenting unique dual-mode slider

imageimage

HTC has  developed a technology for slider phones that could make them both more useful and more elegant, according to a new US patent filing. Rather than rely on either dual sliders (as with the Helio Ocean) or other complicated designs, the prototype would include a unique keyboard plate and slider track that would allow users to shift the LCD from calling to text modes without significantly impacting the size of the phone.

The cellphone maker is not under any pressure to use the patent and has not done so to date. However, the design shown in concept images is one not seen before from HTC. If put into production, the device would either be a new model altogether or else a major replacement for an existing model, such as the HTC Vox

ASUS P527

imageThe P527 is a somewhat clunky-looking phone with a standard numeric keypad of raised, squarish buttons below a 2.6-inch, 320-by-240-pixel touch screen. Seven special function buttons along the side of the keypad let you switch applications and activate GPS and entertainment apps. On the sides of the phone you find a lock switch, a scroll rocker, a camera button, and a conveniently placed microSD card slot that supported our 8GB SanDisk card without a problem. There’s a 2-megapixel camera on the back, and a SiRFstarIII GPS chip inside. It’s relatively light, at 4.4 ounces and 4.4 by 2.3 by 0.6 inches (HWD).
