Samsung Ultra Smart F700 coming next year

image Samsung Ultra Smart F700 coming early next year (Jan/Feb) to Malaysia. Although the device is currently available in Germany and the UK, however plans to intro this touchscreen HSDPA handset elsewhere in Asia Pacific is still pending confirmation. The Ultra Smart F700 is often referred to as the iPhone killer, and we only hope that the Malays think likewise. Samsung Ultra Smart F700 features a sliding out QWERTY keyboard, which is aided by a spring-loaded mechanism. The square keys with rounded borders resemble those on the Apple MacBooks.

BerryBUDDY to be tweaked for 8120 and 8130

image Stefano has managed to get an early shot of the new BerryBUDDY for the Pearl 2, which has been adapted for the new USB slot position. Supposedly, the adapter is kind of a booster seat for the 8130 and includes an adhesive pad to keep it in place. That being said, hopefully you’ll be able to pick it up separately for those who have upgraded from the BlackBerry 8100 but still want to use their old charger.

vTap updated for OS 4.3

image Hayden just updated us on the status of vTap, the video search and video player for mobile. It’s now optimized for BlackBerry OS 4.3, which included streaming video support, and stretches back to the 8700. The search is pretty cool, working a lot like Boopsie in that it offers results as you type. On top of YouTube searching, they’ve also got a Wikipedia search with the same instant-return feature. The usual disclaimer follows that you probably shouldn’t be trying this out unless you’ve got an unlimited data plan, or really deep pockets. While it doesn’t look like the video search is ready just yet (just Wikipedia), we’re sure it will soon be accessible at http://m.vtap.com from your mobile browser.

O2 announces O2 Wallet with Transport for London, Transys, Barclaycard, Visa Europe, Nokia and AEG

Espoo, Finland - O2 today announced the launch of the UK’s first large scale pilot of NFC (Near Field Communications) technology on mobile phones. The trial of the O2 Wallet® paves the way for the mass market use of mobile phones to pay for purchases, access events or even be used as Oyster cards for travel around London, simply by touching the phone to a reader.

"Research shows that people are more likely to return home if they leave their phone behind than their wallet or keys," said Cath Keers, Customer Director, O2 UK. "So why not have your wallet on your phone? We believe that NFC technology is going to fundamentally change the way people use their mobile phones."

The trial, which will involve over 500 people invited from the O2 customer base, takes place across selected sites throughout London and begins on 28th November 2007 running for six months until the end of May 2008.

NFC is a contactless functionality, enabling a wide range of secure uses including cashless payments, public transport and event ticketing, and smart posters. In order to make this as comprehensive a pilot as possible, O2 has brought together a broad range of partners, including Transport for London, TranSys, Barclaycard, Visa Europe, Nokia and AEG.

Symantec AntiVirus 4.0 Arrives for Windows Mobile

Symantec have just announced the launch of Mobile AntiVirus 4.0 for Windows Mobile. Until now, there’s only really been one major player doing AV for Windows Mobile - and that’s F-Secure. Retailing at $29.95 you can buy the Symantec product online, although I can only find it on their US website at the moment and not the UK one.
This will detect, quarantine and remove viruses, worms or infected emails form your system and will protect you against anything hitting your Windows Mobile phone over the email, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, IR, storage card or sync cable.

Pimp my Windows Mobile Phone!

image Willcom Japan and Lights-Style will propose in Japan a "PIMPED" version of the PHS Windows Mobile 6 PDA Phone the W-ZERO3es… Which as you can see will be perfect for Paris Hilton if she ever fly back to Japan with her sister. I am definitively not a big fan of such stuff, but I must admit that the work is very well done and it will surely help Willcom to promote Windows Moible devices in Japan… Good one guys !

ASUS’ R50A UMPC goes legit

Asus just officially announced their R50A UMPC which we first spotted as the R3. You remember, imagethe latest UMPC set to "redefine mobile." So… does it? You be the judge: 4.8-inch, 1024 x 600 pixel display; built-in GPS; webcam and microphone; 3G / 3.5G data; and built-in TV tuner. Even though Asus keeps touting "full notebook functionality" the device lacks one significant feature: a QWERTY keyboard. We’re still waiting for a price and confirmed specs (like CPU) before making up our minds about this one.
